Olive Trees

The olive industry in Australia is expanding rapidly and evolving with regard to varietal preferences and the size of plantations.

Larger plantations in southern Australia have emerged that show preferences for particular varieties and Dalley's Nursery has developed sources of cutting to produce varieties that are increasingly in demand.

Varieties that are available include:

  • Kalamata
  • Barnea
  • Frantoio
  • Leccino
  • Manzanillo
  • Corregiola
  • Nevadillo Blanco
  • Picual
  • Sevillano
  • UC13A6
  • Ligurian

Specific information about these varieties is available on request, however customers are encouraged to make their own inquiries about the suitability of a particular variety for its end use.

Dalley's Nursery has taken due care in sourcing the material and its quality "certified true to type" origins are provided to customers on request.

Trees are now grown with techniques developed over the last four years that ensure the production of robust and clean trees that suit planting in modern olive orchards. Adding value to this experience the Dalley's have an extensive network of experts that assist with nursery issues as well as providing information with regards to trends in the olive industry.

Tree Specifications
  • All olive trees are propagated from cuttings
  • Trees are propagated and grown in premium organic, soil free potting mixes (currently Debco)
  • The trees receive a balanced nutritional program, as well as precautionary pest and disease control spray program while in the nursery
  • The trees are supplied in 800mL square pots
  • Tree height ranges from 500mm to 750mm, with initial training to a central leader, unless otherwise specified
  • The trees are grown under 50% shade cloth and then hardened off in direct sunlight prior to dispatch
Square pots produce superior root systems.
Convenient to handle in potting frame of 9.
Propagated using trichoderma and mycorrhizal innoculant which aids root development and establishment of the young olives.

The roots in these pots find the corners, travel down and air prune out the bottom thus generating a more fibrous root system. All varieties of olives (except Kalamata)  are propagated from rooted cuttings and grown in 0.8 litre square plastic pots, held in a frame of 9 for easy handling.
